Magoffin County Board of Education is the local educational agency (LEA) for the Magoffin County School District. The district is comprised of 1 high school (grades 9-12), 1 middle school (grades 7-8), and 6 elementary schools (grades K-6).
Ground breaking ceremonies for 2 new elementary schools were held in August 2006. The construction of these 2 elementary schools will consolidate 5 outlying elementary schools into 2 new facilities. Along with Salyersville Grade School that was recently completed in December 2004, all elementary students will be attending new state-of-the-art learning environments.
Magoffin County School District firmly believes that all students can learn and achieve at high levels. The district has aligned and allocated resources to ensure all students have equal access to a challenging curriculum and a wide range of educational programs.

MSU at West Liberty, as a part of Morehead State University’s Regional Campus Programs, is to serve the educational needs of the uneducated and undereducated adults, to help these adults become more employable, in the six-county area including Morgan, Menifee, Magoffin, Elliott, Wolfe, and Breathitt Counties.
MSU at West Liberty provides admission and financial aid counseling for students enrolling at Morehead State University. In addition, the Commonwealth Education Opportunity Counselor provides assistance with information and applications to other postsecondary and vocational schools as well as financial aid applications. The Adult Education and Career Center provides GED preparation as well as instruction in Adult Basic Education, Family Literacy, and classes for referrals from the Cabinet for Family Based Services. Additionally, GED testing and ACT testing services are provided with ACT computer-assisted test preparation available. There are three computer labs, with one open lab available for general usage.
MSU at West Liberty is located in the Index area of West Liberty off HWY 460. Turn beside the Ford dealership, and then turn right at the MSU signage. MSU at West Liberty is up on the hill at the back of the parking lot.
